China welcomes continuation of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

China supports continued dialogue between Russia and Ukraine to achieve a just settlement of the conflict. This was announced on May 19 by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning.

"We hope that the parties concerned will continue negotiations and dialogue to achieve a fair, long-term and binding peace agreement acceptable to each of them, and eventually achieve a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,— TASS quoted her as saying.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also announced that Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing will visit Russia. The visit is scheduled for May 19-22, 2025.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on May 9 that eliminating the root cause of the Ukrainian conflict and achieving a comprehensive solution to resolve it is a task that must be solved. He clarified that Beijing supports a "common and comprehensive" solution in the field of global security and hopes that a peace agreement will be reached through dialogue.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 8 that relations between Russia and China are self-sufficient and independent of the current global situation. He also noted that during the meeting with Xi Jinping, he discussed in detail economic ties, as well as issues of politics and security of both countries.
