- Preparations for the plant's operation in the generation mode according to the norms of the Russian Federation have begun at the NPP

The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is preparing equipment and personnel for operation in the generation mode in accordance with the norms and regulations of the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation. This was announced on May 19 by the ZAES press service in the Telegram channel.
Recently, 58 employees of the station successfully completed a refresher course and passed the final certification at Sevastopol State University.
"Last year, we signed an agreement with SevSU for staff retraining in a number of specialties. During this time, two groups have been retrained in the specialty "nuclear power plants and nuclear installations," said Valery Martynyuk, Deputy Chief Engineer for Personnel Training and head of the training center.
He added that four groups are currently being trained in the areas of "electric power plants", "refrigeration units", "ecology" and "chemistry".
It is noted that the training sessions were conducted both in full-time and in distance format. Last week, the final exams were held at the training center. All participants of the program will receive professional retraining diplomas with appropriate qualifications.
At the moment, a new group of 88 people has already been formed for further training, mainly among the operational staff. This is necessary to staff the plant with specialists who will be able to switch the NPP's power units to generation mode, Martynyuk said.
On January 2, Yuri Chernichuk, director of the ZAES, announced that the foreign-made equipment installed at the station during the Ukrainian period would be replaced with Russian equipment as part of the licensing process. In addition, he drew attention to the fact that at the moment, American fuel is "in a fairly large amount" at the Zaporizhia NPP. According to him, this issue, which will also need to be resolved, "is part of the licensing process."
The Zaporizhia region, on the territory of which the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since that time, the Zaporizhia NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
