Two Novosibirsk residents were sentenced to up to 12 years for arson on the West Siberian Railway. This was announced on May 19 by the press service of the Russian Transport Police.

It is specified that the detainees responded to a job offer in one of the messengers. In order to receive a monetary reward, the attackers set fire to the railway equipment.

In November 2023, law enforcement officers identified the suspects who set fire to the relay cabinet on the stretch between Kleshchikha and Chemskaya stations. At the time of the crime, the defendants were 17 and 20 years old.

"According to the results of the preliminary investigation by the Eastern Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the detainees were charged with a crime under part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation," the publication in the Telegram channel says.

According to the press service of the department, the court reviewed the case materials and sentenced one of the defendants to six years in prison to be served in a general regime colony, the second to 12 years to serve the first three years and six months in prison, and he will spend the rest of his term in a high-security colony.

Earlier, on April 30, a teenager was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for setting fire to a battery cabinet on a railway in the town of Ludinovo, Kaluga region. It was clarified that the minor agreed to the proposal to commit a sabotage crime on the territory of Russia for money.
