Rostec has identified vulnerabilities in the protection of the German Leopard 2 tank

German Leopard 2 tanks do not meet the current conditions on the battlefield due to insufficient protection from drone attacks and modern anti-tank missile systems (ATGMs). This was announced on May 19 by the press service of Rostec State Corporation.
"The Leopard 2 tank, which has been studied by our specialists, has identified security vulnerabilities. They are related both to the thickness and composition of the armor, and to the internal layout of the combat vehicle. The survivability of the tank may be insufficient in the conditions of modern warfare," the Telegram channel of the state corporation clarifies.
It is noted that the protection of German tanks is focused on the classic anti-tank factors characteristic of the past decades, and cannot effectively protect the vehicle from drones with a cumulative warhead and modern ATGMs.
Rostec noted that according to these parameters, Leopard tanks are inferior to the Russian T-72B3M, T-80BVM and T-90M, which are equipped with all-angle protection using dynamic protection and lattice screens.
"Dozens of combat episodes are known when Russian tanks withstood a number of hits from different angles, while maintaining combat capability," the state corporation stressed.
On April 14, The Telegraph newspaper reported that German Leopard 2 tanks, which are used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, proved ineffective in combat operations during the Ukrainian conflict. The publication notes that Leopard 2 is vulnerable to drone attacks, and its complex design and equipment make it impossible to repair in the field.
