Zakharova pointed to French interference in the elections in Romania

France is interfering in Romania's internal affairs and manipulating the main instrument of democracy. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Izvestia on May 19, commenting on a statement by Pavel Durov, co-founder of the Telegram messenger, about requests to broker channels of Romanian conservatives ahead of the presidential elections in the country.
"This is not just about the gross violation of freedom of speech and human rights violations in France. This charge is much heavier — it is about direct interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and manipulation of the fundamental democratic mechanism — elections," she said.
