Due to foot-and-mouth disease, it is premature to open borders for the import of livestock products from the EU. This was stated by the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergey Dankvert, in an exclusive interview with Izvestia.

"Foot-and-mouth disease is like the African plague, like avian influenza, diseases that spread quite quickly and have a very negative impact on the economies of the countries where they occur. Therefore, as a preventive measure, we closed the import of products from the European Union on January 20. This happened after analyzing the situation in these countries and predicting that the disease would spread there. And it really started in March," the head of the service said.

According to him, the opening of the border will depend on the development of the disease situation.

"We took protective measures for a reason. At the same time, certain types of products are allowed to be imported after inspection and in terms of heat treatment above 72 degrees. For example, the same pet food. If there is processing, import, no means no," he said.
