Netanyahu's office announced the approval of food imports into Gaza.

Israel will allow the import of a "basic amount" of food to prevent the threat of famine in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on Sunday, May 18, by the Office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"The decision was made without a vote, as several ministers opposed it at once <...> Israel will work to deprive the radical Palestinian movement Hamas of the opportunity to take control of the distribution of humanitarian aid," The Jerusalem Post said.
At the moment, assistance will be sent through several international organizations until a new assistance mechanism starts operating on May 24, the newspaper said.
The hostages will not be released in response to the resumption of assistance, the sources said.
Earlier in the day, the media reported on Hamas' offer to hand over nine hostages on the terms of the movement. It is noted that the hostages will be released on condition that units of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will be relocated to the eastern border of the Gaza Strip.
