In Syria, three law enforcement officers were killed in an explosion at a police station in the city of Al-Mayadin. This was reported by the SANA news agency on Sunday, May 18, with reference to the city administration.

"Initial investigations and an inspection of the scene showed that a car bomb exploded, killing three members of the general security service and injuring several others," Khalil Abdul—Moneim al-Ayub, the city's administrative director, told the media.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that an explosion near a military recruitment center in the Somali capital Mogadishu killed at least 11 people. The explosion was caused by a suicide bomber.
