US President's special Envoy Steve Witkoff has proposed a new ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip to the Israeli administration and the radical Hamas movement. This was announced on Sunday, May 18, by the Axios portal.

"Witkoff has given Israel and Hamas an updated proposal for a hostage deal and a cease-fire in Gaza and is putting pressure on the parties to accept it," the article says.

The portal points out that the new deal provides guarantees for Hamas that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be able to announce the end of the truce unilaterally.

The agreement also provides for the release of 10 Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and a 45-60-day ceasefire.

Earlier in the day, the media reported on Hamas' offer to hand over nine hostages on the terms of the movement. It is noted that the hostages will be released on condition that the units of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will be relocated to the eastern border of the Gaza Strip.
