The PMR called the possible victory of Simion in Romania the most acceptable option

The possible victory of the Romanian presidential candidate from the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) party, George Simion, in the Romanian presidential elections seems to be the most acceptable option for Moldova and Transnistria. This was stated on May 18 by Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) Andrei Safonov.
"Simion's victory is to reduce the risk of the invasion of troops from Romania, Britain, France into Moldova and Transnistria, as well as pushing Moldova itself to attack the PMR," Safonov wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
According to the MP, Simion's possible victory in Romania will also increase the chances of defeat of the ruling Moldovan Action and Solidarity party in the Moldovan parliamentary elections on September 28.
Earlier in the day, the second round of the Romanian presidential election began. Polling stations opened at 07:00 (coincides with Moscow time) and will close at 21:00. There are 18,979 polling stations in the country. Romanian citizens living outside the country vote for three days.
Romanian MEP Diana Shoshoake, leader of the opposition S.O.S Romania party, who was banned from running for the highest office in the country, said that the results of the first round of presidential elections in Romania contradict the law, since the electoral process itself is inconsistent with the country's Constitution. As Shoshoake noted, only candidates who "belong to this system" were allowed to participate.
