Russian actor Alexander Kabanov, known for his roles in the TV series "Bandit Petersburg" and "Streets of Broken Lanterns," died at the age of 69, the St. Petersburg theater festival "Baltic House" announced on May 18.
"For all of us, the passing of Alexander Anatolyevich Kabanov is an irreparable loss. The Baltic House Theater Festival expresses its deep condolences to the artist's family and friends. The place and time of the farewell will be announced additionally," the message on the theater's VKontakte page says.
They noted that in addition to working in the theater, Kabanov taught at the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (RGISI), passing on "a first-class school to the younger generation." The students considered him one of their favorite teachers.
In the theater, the actor is known for his roles as Robinson in A. Ostrovsky's "Penniless", Woland in M. Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita", the Old Man from E. Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea", Gaev in Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" and many others. He began acting in films in the early 1990s. Viewers remembered him most of all for the TV series "Bandit Petersburg" and "Streets of Broken Lanterns".
After Kabanov graduated from the course of Zinovy Korogodsky in 1981, the artist was accepted into the troupe of the Bryantsev Youth Theater in St. Petersburg. In 1999, he was invited to the Baltic House Theater Festival, where he joined the troupe of Experimental Stage actors under the direction of Anatoly Praudin.
