The IAU refused to recognize the world record of marathon runner Zaborsky because of the Russian flag.

The International Association of Super Marathoners (IAU) refused to recognize the world record of Russian Ivan Zaborsky in the six-day race due to the fact that he finished with the Russian flag. This was announced on May 18 on the organization's website.

"As for the tournaments under the auspices of the IAU, athletes from these two countries (Russia and Belarus. It is not prohibited to participate in them, as it remains at the discretion of the organizers of such commercial competitions. However, the international association expects that all competitions with the appropriate status <...> will not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate, except for those who are recognized as neutral athletes," the IAU said in a statement.

The organization stressed that any performances by athletes from Russia and Belarus competing under the national flag will not be recognized and will not be included in the list of records.

Earlier, on May 4, Zaborsky won the ultramarathon "6 days of France". The Russian athlete maintained a stable speed of 1,000 km and led the marathon for 6 days.

The 6 Days of France is one of the most prestigious endurance competitions in Europe. Its history began back in 2006. That was the first time the marathon was held in Antibes. Today, the 6 Days of France brings together over 140 athletes from dozens of countries around the world.
