An operative of the Department of Transport for the North-Western Federal District was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of attempting to take a particularly large bribe. This was reported on May 18 in the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city.
"The operative <...> demanded a bribe of more than 1 million rubles from a witness in a criminal case, in which he conducted operational search activities, for not bringing him to criminal responsibility," the department's Telegram channel clarified.
The victim reported the extortion to law enforcement agencies. As a result of joint actions of investigators and employees of the regional Security Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on transport on May 17, the suspects were detained.
Criminal cases have been initiated under articles on attempted bribery on an especially large scale and mediation in bribery. The operative and his accomplice have been charged, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
On May 16, it was reported that Matvey Ivanov, the head of the construction department of the public law company Military Construction Company in the Moscow Military District, was charged with accepting a bribe of 20 million rubles. Ivanov was placed under house arrest. The investigation of the criminal case is currently ongoing.
