Up to 2,000 years in prison are threatened by those arrested in the case of a fire at a resort in Bolu.

The prosecution has requested a total of almost 2,000 years in prison for 13 people arrested in connection with the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Turkey. This was reported on May 17 by the NTV channel with reference to the Prosecutor General's Office.

"In the indictment, 13 persons were charged <...> with a total requirement of up to 1998 years in prison," the publication says.

Among those arrested are the owners of the hotel and its management, the deputy mayor of Bolu, the head of the city's fire department, as well as other officials. They were found responsible for the tragedy.

It is specified that another 19 people can be sentenced to prison terms of up to 22.5 years.

A large-scale fire at the Bolu resort occurred on the night of January 21, 2025. 78 people died in it. The fire started in a wooden hotel located at an altitude of 2.2 thousand m. It was clarified that there were almost 240 guests in the building. On January 26, the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel, Halit Ergul, blamed the hotel staff for the fire.
