Updating applications, especially banking ones, is necessary, even if everything is working. This is necessary to avoid hackers and scammers who exploit software vulnerabilities before they are eliminated. According to the expert, updates are not just about changing the design or adding new features. Their main task is to remove vulnerabilities that are actively exploited by attackers. Any found gap in the code of a popular application turns into a loophole for access to phone, correspondence or bank data, Khusainova explained.
She stressed that it is especially important to update financial applications in a timely manner. This is not just advice, but a necessary condition for the security of users' money. Each new version eliminates the risks of phishing, transaction substitution, remote hacking and other fraud methods, the expert listed. Only up-to-date software provides protection against these threats.
As Khusainova pointed out, the consequences of ignoring this fact can be serious and lead to data leakage, device involvement in cyber attacks, or even blocking by ransomware. One missed update can result in major losses, the source said.
"The next time an update message appears, do not click later. This is not a whim of the developers, but an attempt to save them from big problems," the expert concluded.
