German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Saturday, May 17, that sending military personnel from NATO or the European Union to Ukraine is not being considered.

"There is no decision, there is no discussion of sending NATO and EU troops to Ukraine. It's completely out of the political context, and there's no reason to talk about it. We are currently working on a ceasefire," Merz told reporters at a press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

He also added that the discussion about troops in Ukraine is currently completely "beyond any political reality."

Earlier, on May 16, Merz denied plans to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles. According to the politician, this is due to "significant preparation." At the same time, Merz added that Ukraine is being supplied with other US missiles.
