A rally was held in the Serbian Niche at the initiative of Vucic

On May 17, at the initiative of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, a nationwide rally was held in the center of the Serbian city of Nis, the largest in the south of the country. The streets were blocked, gendarmerie, reinforced police units and protesting students were everywhere.
"Supporters of the current government on buses were able to break through the crowd of protesters only with the help of the police. The center of Serbia's third largest city, Nis, is completely blocked. The streets are full of gendarmerie, police and protesters and those who support Vucic," Sergei Petrov, a journalist from Izvestia, described the situation in Nis.
Vucic called for the rally, appealing to the citizens with a corresponding request.
On April 26, Izvestia reported that the protests of Serbian students in Novi Sad were supported by employees from other fields, including workers in culture, agriculture, and other movements and parties. The student protests were also joined by bikers who guard the rally points.
