Putin instructed to develop measures to ban plastic on Lake Baikal

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed to submit proposals on the phased introduction of a ban on plastic tableware and packaging on Lake Baikal. The corresponding provision is contained in the list of orders of the head of state to the Government of the Russian Federation published on May 17 following the meeting on April 14.

"On the phased introduction of a ban on the turnover of tableware and packaging made of non-compostable materials within the borders of the Baikal Natural Territory, including providing for the need to label such tableware and packaging for consumers warning of harm to Lake Baikal," the document says on the Kremlin's website.
