The Russian delegation to the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican will be led by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova. Her name appears on May 17 in the list of delegations distributed by the press service of the Holy See, writes TASS.
The inauguration ceremony of the new pontiff will take place on Sunday, May 18. In total, more than 150 delegations have been announced. The Russian Minister of Culture also attended the funeral of the previous Pope, Francis.
The United States will be represented at the ceremony in the Vatican by Vice President Jay Dee Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will also hold a meeting with the leadership of the Vatican State Secretariat there.
Earlier, on May 10, it was reported that the Vatican presented the coat of arms of the new pope. It clarifies that the pontiff's motto is rooted in the Augustinian tradition: In Illo uno unum — "In One we are united."
Cardinal Robert Prevost from the United States was elected the new pope on May 8. He became the first American cardinal with Latin American roots, prefect of the dicastery for Bishops, and a representative of the Augustinian Order. As pontiff, he took the name Leo XIV.
