The Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka spewed ash to an altitude of 8.5 km.

For the second time in a day, ash was released from the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka. This was announced on May 17 by the press service of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB RAS).

"At 12:20 (03:20 Moscow time. The explosions raised the ash of the Shiveluch volcano 8.5 km above sea level," the Telegram channel says.

It is specified that the ash plume stretches for 35 km to the north-northeast. It is noted that at the moment, the volcano's activity is dangerous for local and international air travel.

The Telegram channel of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory clarified that in the settlements of Ust-Kamchatsky, Bystrinsky, Milkovsky and Tigilsky districts, as well as Yelizovsky and Karaginsky districts, in the event of a wind change, ash remains likely to fall.

On the eve of the evening, the first powerful ash emission occurred on the Shiveluch volcano. Surveillance cameras recorded a high column of black smoke.

Prior to that, on May 10, the Karymsky volcano in Kamchatka released ash on May 10. It was clarified that the ashes were raised to a height of 3.5 km above sea level. The response team reported that the volcano's activity poses a danger to local air travel.
