Russia–Islamic World Economic Forum begins in Kazan

The 16th International Economic Forum "Russia - the Islamic World: Kazan Forum" has started in the capital of Tatarstan, one of the key topics of which was the development of international transport corridors. Representatives of more than 100 countries are taking part in the event, and over 80 agreements have been signed. This was announced on May 17 by Izvestia correspondent Ivan Kuzmin.
The forum is held according to the rules of "halal" and opens with the reading of verses. The participants demonstrate the cultural characteristics and investment potential of their countries and regions. Of particular interest is the stand of Turkmenistan, where national crafts and industry are represented.
The Kazan Forum in 2025 set a new record for the number of participants — more than 20 thousand people. Delegations from Russian regions and foreign countries offer a variety of investment projects, from light industry to mechanical engineering and mining.
"New tariff wars, sanctions pressure, and geopolitical challenges will never lead us astray. Let us work together to strengthen our strength, which starts in the economy," Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said during the forum.
The forum discusses issues of Islamic banking and logistics. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin announced Pakistan's proposal to open seven transportation routes between South Asia and Russia.
"The presence of about 3,500 IT companies and tens of thousands of IT specialists allows us to develop and implement advanced technological solutions in many areas of public life," said Ruslan Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan.
The head of the Donbass Development Corporation, Vladimir Komisarchuk, reported a high interest in investments, noting that 176 projects are currently being supported, but "the intensity of appeals is increasing every day."
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia intends to hold the first Russian-Arab summit and invites the leaders of the Arab League (LAS) countries to it. The Russian leader also expressed confidence that the summit, which will be held on October 15 this year, will contribute to further strengthening mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
