The US Secret Service has questioned former FBI Director James Comey after his social media post calling for the assassination of US President Donald Trump. This was reported by The New York Times on Friday, May 16.

According to the newspaper, the interrogation, to which Comey voluntarily agreed, took place at the Secret Service office in Washington.

"I did not know that some people associate these figures with violence. It never occurred to me, but I'm against violence of any kind, so I deleted the post," he explained.

Critics of the Trump administration believe that his team fanned the scandal to use it as an excuse to prosecute one of the alleged "enemies" of the American president, the newspaper writes.
