The former head of the capital repairs and construction department of the Professional Equipment Plant Limited Liability Company, who was under investigation in connection with the deaths of five workers at the plant in Mtsensk in the Orel region, will appear in court on charges of violating safety regulations during construction work. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region on Friday, May 16.

"The investigation established that in January 2020, the accused was responsible for compliance with safety regulations during the production of combined and painting works on the territory of the enterprise in the city of Mtsensk," the report said.

As the investigation found, in 2020, he engaged a contractor to carry out painting work on waterproofing treatment tanks in the electroplating workshop without concluding a contract with him. After that, in the period from January 28 to January 30, employees of this contractor were engaged in waterproofing three underground reinforced concrete treatment tanks.

Upon completion of the work, the former boss allowed five foreign workers to enter the workshop in order to install sewage treatment plant equipment. An open fire source was used during the work. As a result, an explosion of a mixture of volatile vapors of solvent components occurred.

To date, the preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court.
