Ukraine's inability to preserve its territorial integrity was due to the fact that Western countries allowed themselves to undermine international law by interfering in the sovereign affairs of other states. This was stated on May 16 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the words of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Guterres suggested on May 14 that if it is not possible to achieve a just peace in Ukraine, given the preservation of the country's territorial integrity, this will lead to the undermining of international law and chaos throughout the world.

"The UN Secretary-General has somewhat violated the causal relationship — the opposite is true. This undermining of international law has led to the inability to preserve the territorial integrity and peace in Ukraine. Who undermined it is the collective West," the diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel.

Zakharova clarified that the West began to interfere in the internal affairs of states for a long time and regularly, directly influencing internal elections, as well as paying bribes to officials and supporting aggressive nationalism. The diplomat added that the authorities of Western states violate human rights, arm Ukraine and are unwilling to comply with the decisions of the UN Security Council.

On May 6, Zakharova noted that the UN secretariat could hardly be considered an honest broker in the framework of the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to the diplomat, the UN representatives did not comment on "any atrocities" on the part of the Kiev regime, even those that have been proven.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on March 5 that the UN Charter is a criterion of equality and justice in the world, but few Western countries observe it. According to him, the new centers of power, which are involved in reaching agreements on the future, should be based on "non-interference in internal affairs, the right of peoples to self-determination, territorial integrity and human rights."
