1,645 residents of the region applied to medical institutions of the Irkutsk region in connection with the sucking of ticks during the week. The regional department of Rospotrebnadzor announced this in its Telegram channel on Friday, May 16.
A total of 4,016 cases of tick sucking have been recorded since the beginning of the epidemic season. Eight people became ill with tick—borne borreliosis, three with rickettsiosis, and one with encephalitis.
According to the agency, tick activity is recorded in most of the region. Acaricide treatment is carried out in squares, parks, on the territories of schools, hospitals and other institutions, IrkutskMedia news agency writes.
As of May 16, the cultivation area has already exceeded 800 hectares. Work continues in public places.
In March, infectious disease specialist Vladimir Neronov told Izvestia about the dangerous consequences of tick-borne encephalitis. In particular, according to him, it can lead to disability.
