Western countries are afraid of the possibility of improving relations between Russia and Ukraine. This was announced on May 16 by the Minister of National Defense of Poland, Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh.

"It would be the worst scenario for all of us if Ukraine <...> started looking towards Moscow," he said at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Rome.

He also noted that NATO countries need to continue to support Ukraine and ensure that Kiev continues to "look to the West."

On May 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the West does not like Russia's independence, which is why it wants its strategic defeat. According to Lavrov, there is plenty of evidence that Western capitals do not seek peace in Ukraine. They are discussing the fact that it is impossible to stop the "mobilization" of Europe against Russia.

On May 9, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said that European politicians were dragging out the conflict in Ukraine because of a wrong strategy and fear of responsibility. Szijjarto noted that European politicians believe that negotiations on a ceasefire should begin only when Kiev finds itself in a "strong" position.
