More than 5.7 million Russian children will go to camps this year. Nikolay Gorbunov, head of educational programs at Enjoy Camp, shared tips to help prepare a child for a trip and maintain parental peace on May 18.

According to him, choosing a reliable camp is the first and most important step. It is necessary to verify the availability of a license for educational activities, check the qualifications of staff and living conditions. Special attention should be paid to security issues.: how is the territory protected, what protocols exist for emergency situations, and whether there is a medical professional. It is useful to study the reviews of other parents not only on the official resources of the camp, but also on independent sites.

Packing a suitcase on such a trip requires special care. It is important to take into account the weather conditions and planned activities, from sporting events to hiking. It is better to arrange clothes in sets, this will help the child navigate faster. A headdress, a raincoat and comfortable shoes with good fixation will become mandatory elements of the wardrobe. Do not forget about the basic first—aid kit and individual medications, if the child is taking them, for the latter it is necessary to draw up detailed instructions for counselors.

"Add something personal to your suitcase-a book, a flashlight, a toy. Such an "island at home" will help the child in those moments when he misses his parents," the specialist advised.

It is necessary to take into account the rules of the children's camp regarding gadgets. Gorbunov recalled that today many camps restrict the use of telephones. Summer digital detox is becoming more and more popular, but, of course, a child can and should call home and want to send "circles" to friends.

"Find out what rules of "communication with the outside world" are established in the camp so that a sudden call does not distract the child from classes or games. Also specify the convenient method and time of communication with the counselors in case of an unforeseen situation. But do not worry: if the child does not call or write, it means that everything is fine with him," the expert noted.

He also recommended giving your child a smartwatch with GPS so that he feels connected to you, but not distracted from activities at the camp.

The specialist recalled that psychological training is no less important than practical training. The child needs to explain the basic safety rules and algorithms of actions in various situations. It is worth tuning in to the fact that the period of adaptation may be accompanied by homesickness — this is normal. The main thing is that the child feels your support and confidence in his independence.

"It is important for a child to know that he can always count on you, but at the same time you trust him and enjoy his independence. The more a child feels supported, the easier it is for him to adapt, make friends, open up and get a vivid summer experience," Gorbunov concluded.

Earlier, on February 27, it was reported which summer work options exist for teenagers. So, a good option may be to work as a waiter in cafes or restaurants, as well as a barista or kitchen assistant. In such a job, there is a flexible schedule and the opportunity to earn tips.
