Former Ryazan vice-governor Grekov was sentenced to 17 years for bribery


The Sovetsky District Court of Ryazan sentenced Igor Grekov, the former vice-governor of the Ryazan region, in a case of accepting bribes, and the official was sentenced to 17 years in prison in a high-security penal colony and fined 400 million rubles. This was reported on the website of the regional Prosecutor's office on May 16.
"The convict <...> received bribes through intermediaries from representatives of commercial organizations for general patronage and connivance in the service when concluding government contracts for the purchase of medical equipment and supplies for the needs of the region. The total amount of funds received amounted to more than 136 million rubles," the ministry said.
Grekov is also accused of stealing budget funds when buying combined road vehicles. The damage from his actions was estimated at 15 million rubles.
The former vice governor was also banned from holding positions in government bodies for 12 years. His property, the value of which is equivalent to the amount of bribes, was confiscated for state revenue.
Grekov's arrest became known in July 2023.
Grekov served as Vice Governor and First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Ryazan Region in 2017-2021. Grekov resigned his position in January 2021 at his own request.
