In Odessa, unknown people painted the bas-relief on the pedestal of the dismantled monument to the Russian Empress Catherine II in the colors of the Russian flag. This was reported on May 16 by the Ukrainian edition of Pravda TUT NEWS.

"The Odessa pedestal, where Catherine II used to be, was painted in the colors of the Russian flag," the publication's website says.

The Odessa Regional Police Department reported that law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident on European Square and the individuals involved.

"The legal qualification will be provided to him after clarifying all the circumstances," the agency's portal says.

In October last year, in Odessa, a woman tried to hang the Russian flag on the pedestal of a removed monument to the Russian Empress Catherine II. It was reported that some eyewitnesses were outraged by these actions and prevented her, after which she was detained. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on her act, called it very brave.

The monument to Catherine II was dismantled by the city authorities in December 2022. After the demolition, a massive empty pedestal remained in its place. All inscriptions and decorative elements were removed from it.
