In Brazil, an outbreak of avian flu was reported on a farm

Brazilian authorities have identified the country's first outbreak of avian influenza on a commercial poultry farm. This was reported on May 16 by CNN Brazil with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.
"The Ministry <...> confirms that on Friday it detected the avian influenza virus in commercial poultry in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This is the first outbreak of avian influenza virus detected in a commercial poultry farming system in Brazil. Since 2006, the virus has been circulating mainly in Asia, Africa and Northern Europe," the channel says.
The Brazilian Government has already begun implementing measures to contain and eliminate the outbreak, which are provided for in the national plan.
It is specified that the ministry is in touch with participants in the production chain and with commercial partners of the country.
On April 28, Okapi Radio reported an outbreak of cholera in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Health Minister Roger Kamba said that over the past week, more than 1,100 cases of cholera have been reported, including 22 deaths.
