The last time they were recorded was by surveillance cameras in the entrance of the house. After that, no one saw the couple, although messages continued to arrive on their behalf. Friends of the family contacted the police with a statement about the couple's disappearance.
Ekaterina, the granddaughter of the ex-mayor, was arrested on suspicion of double murder. According to the investigation, she had been sending SMS messages from Tarkhov and his wife's phones for a month. She also started selling her grandparents' property using forged documents. According to the Izvestia source, Ekaterina claimed that Tarkhov and his wife had left the country.
Later, footage from a surveillance camera was released showing Ekaterina carrying a barrel out of his apartment. According to one version, the granddaughter dismembered the grandparents and gradually took the body fragments out of the house, taking them away by taxi. At the same time, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia reported that the woman had purchased items to conceal the murder of her grandfather, among them chemical canisters and plastic containers.
On February 28, the girl confessed. She explained that she poisoned relatives to take over their property, and then froze the bodies in nitrogen, after which they were dismembered by an accomplice. The Tarkhovs' remains were scattered in dumpsters. The man managed to leave the Samara region, he was put on the wanted list.
