In Voronezh, a man extinguished the Eternal Flame at the Monument of Glory memorial, he was detained. This was announced on May 16 by the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (SU IC) for the region.

It is specified that the incident occurred on May 15. An unknown person extinguished the Eternal Flame by throwing flowers and wreaths into it. Passers-by reported the incident to law enforcement agencies.

A criminal case was opened on this fact under Part 3 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Desecration of symbols of military glory of Russia, insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland").

"A 45-year—old suspect has been detained for desecrating the symbol of military glory and the memory of defenders of the Fatherland," the department's Telegram channel says.

In the near future, the man will be taken to the investigative department for questioning.

On April 24, a man who desecrated the Eternal Flame memorial in Irkutsk received 10 days of arrest. It is specified that the driver of the Toyota Corona car violated the rules of the road by driving along the footpath next to the Eternal Flame, where the movement of vehicles is prohibited. In addition, he was intoxicated.
