The area of the forest fire near Chita has increased 400 times in eight days.

The area of forest fire in the territory of the rural settlement of Sokhondinskoye near Chita increased 400 times in eight days to 40 thousand hectares. This was announced on May 16 by the Prosecutor's office of the Trans-Baikal Territory.

"The prosecutor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Yanovsky, during a working trip to the Chita region <...> made a trip to the current <...> a forest fire, the area of which has increased from 100 hectares to 40 thousand hectares in eight days," the department's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that during the trip, Yanovsky got acquainted with the work of fire extinguishing entities, and also instructed his subordinates to carry out the necessary verification measures.

Fires are being extinguished by more than 3,000 people, and the number of specialists in difficult regions is constantly increasing.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that 94 perpetrators of large-scale wildfires, including 40 children, were detained in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Currently, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is extinguishing 35 forest fires in the region, which threaten settlements. So, in the area of the Cook eco-resort, the ignition of the edge of a forest fire on 40 hectares was eliminated with the help of a Be-200ChS aircraft.
