Belousov called the purpose of the Zapad-2025 exercises to practice repelling aggression against the SG

It is planned to practice repelling aggression against the Union State (SG) at the Russian-Belarusian Zapad-2025 exercises. This was announced on May 16 by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov during talks with his Belarusian counterpart Viktor Khrenin in Minsk.

"I want to emphasize the purely defensive nature of this event. We plan to jointly work out actions to repel aggression against the Union State using the regional group of troops of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation," TASS quoted the head of the Russian Defense Ministry as saying.

Belousov added that the military exercises, which will be held at the training grounds of the two countries, will begin in September.

On the same day, Belousov said that Russia and Belarus should begin strengthening their common defense space. During the meeting, Lukashenko thanked Russia for supplying equipment, including military aircraft and helicopters. He also stressed that the country's leadership is working on promising types of weapons, according to a plan developed with Russia.

On April 3, Khrenin stressed that the purpose of the Zapad-2025 exercises scheduled for September is to demonstrate the readiness of countries to defend themselves and confirm that they do not pose a threat to other states. According to him, the exercises will help to increase the level of training of military personnel and improve cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
