Overchuk announced Russia's focus on economic cooperation with Afghanistan

Russia aims to develop bilateral economic cooperation with Afghanistan. This was announced on May 16 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, opening talks with Afghan Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar.
"Russia aims to develop bilateral economic cooperation with your country (Afghanistan. — Ed.). The indicators of our bilateral trade are still quite modest: by the end of 2024, according to our data, the trade turnover amounted to only $323 million," TASS quoted Overchuk as saying.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Russia is convinced that the development and stability of Afghanistan "meet the interests of the entire Eurasian region."
Overchuk noted that the Russian Federation positively assesses the efforts of the Afghan government to improve the Afghan economy.
On the same day, Overchuk said that the trade turnover between Russia and Afghanistan has great potential, and projects in the energy, transport engineering, and mining industries are among the proposed areas of cooperation. According to him, the experience of Russian companies in the mining industry will be in demand in Afghanistan. In addition, Russian enterprises are ready to share their expertise in the field of geological exploration and offer various types of mining equipment.
