The shortage of doctors in public medical institutions is planned to be reduced by 95% this year. This was announced on May 16 by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko during an expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Health.

"A 95% reduction in the shortage of doctors in state medical organizations of the subjects of the Russian Federation," TASS quoted him as saying about the ministry's goals for 2025.

Murashko noted that these measures should be applied to ensure that every hospital and medical and obstetric center has qualified staff.

According to the head of the Ministry of Health, the indicators of an increase in the availability of doctors amounted to at least 43 specialists per 10,000 population and an average of 85 doctors per 10,000 population. At the same time, the increase in admission rates to medical universities has grown to 30 thousand places.

In February, Murashko said that the average salary of doctors in the country increased from 80 thousand in 2019 to 123 thousand in 2024.It was clarified that the salary of doctors increased by 40 thousand rubles, and the average medical staff — by 20 thousand rubles. The minister clarified that due to the increase in salaries, there is already a transition of personnel from private hospitals to public medical institutions.
