- A case of embezzlement of 96 million rubles from the Mariinsky Theatre was opened in St. Petersburg.

A criminal case on fraud on a particularly large scale against the Mariinsky Theatre was opened in St. Petersburg. This was reported on May 16 by a source of Izvestia.
We are talking about embezzlement during the construction of an administrative and production building for an institution on Bulavsky Street, 6A. In November 2023, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, represented by the Mariinsky Theater, signed a contract for the performance of relevant work with NK-City Company LLC and Montex-SPb LLC.
"In the same month, representatives of the contractors submitted fictitious documents to the Federal Treasury Department in St. Petersburg, allegedly confirming the supply of materials and equipment for the construction of the facility," the source said.
Based on these papers, the theater transferred 95.9 million rubles to the companies, which the contractors disposed of at their discretion, which caused material damage to the theater on an especially large scale.
According to the source, the general director of Montex-SPB was detained.
On the same day, it was reported about the disclosure of the scam with "Pushkin cards" by the joint forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB of Russia. Its amount amounted to more than 30 million budget funds. The illegal activity was carried out from April 2023 to May 2024.
