There have been 259 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past day, 259 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 17 people were killed and 318 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on May 15 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
12 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 15 road users needed medical help. The reason for the six bus accidents was traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
As a result of 61 accidents, 24 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 37 outside their area of operation, there were no dead pedestrians, while 63 pedestrians were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 22 children among the injured, 15 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. 38 adult pedestrians were injured in similar circumstances.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to show attention and care to children who take an example of behavior on the road from adults. When walking at night and in conditions of insufficient visibility, it is imperative to use retroreflective elements on your clothes and children's clothes and always monitor their wearing, the department noted.
Also on Thursday, 49 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which one child was killed and 50 young road users were injured.
An accident in which a 12-year-old boy died occurred in the village of Bagan, Novosibirsk region. The teenager was driving a powerful electric scooter, when passing an unregulated intersection, he did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a foreign car driven by a man who had never been issued a driver's license. As a result of the accident, the boy died from his injuries.
The State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of parents to the need to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting driving without the appropriate right and skills. The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department stressed.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motor vehicle drivers to comply with traffic regulations and safety requirements. The motorcycle must be registered with the State Traffic Inspectorate, the driver's license must have the appropriate category or subcategory open, and it is necessary to operate the motorcycle in a motorcycle helmet and motorcycle protection.
Before each departure, it is necessary to check the technical condition of the motorcycle, and when driving, choose a safe speed limit, observe the side interval and distance from other vehicles, and always take into account the requirements of markings, road signs, and traffic lights. You should be especially careful when passing intersections. You should not rush to start or continue driving when changing traffic lights, you need to be careful and monitor the traffic situation, slow down until the vehicle comes to a complete stop when approaching crossings.
"Motorists, in turn, should be more tolerant of two-wheeled road users, regularly look in the rear-view mirrors and also comply with traffic regulations. We remind you that all road users who find themselves in a difficult situation on the road can contact the staff of the State Traffic Inspectorate around the clock for help," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.
Earlier in the day, the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate announced that traffic on the Garden Ring and a number of streets would be restricted in the capital due to sporting events. The roads will be closed at various times from 17 to 19 May.
