One of the main mistakes when deciding on a future profession is considered to be the wrong approach to choosing an educational institution. Instead of first deciding on the field of activity, applicants often choose a university and then try to find a suitable specialty in it. Alexander Khvostov, Director of Relations with the educational community of the Admission Navigator Forum, told Izvestia about this on May 17.

"Choosing a university rather than a specialty can lead to disappointment in studies already in the first years. The right strategy looks different: first career guidance, then career choice, then specialty, and only after that — university,"— said the specialist.

An equally serious problem, according to Khvostov, is inattentive study of admission rules. Each university sets its own requirements, and it is important to understand all the nuances: which areas are included in the enlarged groups, which exams need to be taken, and whether individual achievements are taken into account. At the same time, it is dangerous to focus only on last year's passing scores — the competitive situation can change significantly.

Many applicants incorrectly prioritize when applying for documents, putting the "backup" option first. This approach may deprive you of the chance to enroll in a desired specialty, even if you have enough points for this. Enrollment takes place strictly according to priority, so it is important to carefully consider the order of choosing directions.

Another mistake is ignoring important updates. You need to constantly monitor the university news: how the lists are updated, how the competitive situation is changing, where the chances appeared and where they no longer exist.

"In addition, it is important to be in touch — representatives of universities can call with an offer to bring original documents. But you shouldn't agree right away — it's better to take a break, assess the situation and only then make a decision," the expert advised.

Excessive haste completes the list of errors. It is not always wise to submit documents immediately after receiving a certificate or exam results. Khvostov advises waiting until the middle of July, analyzing the situation and only then making a final decision. An applicant can always revoke the documents and submit them to another university, the main thing is to take your time and carefully weigh everything.

Earlier, on March 28, Anastasia Yekushevskaya, academic director of the Skysmart online school, told Izvestia how to effectively use the remaining time to prepare for the Unified State Exam and minimize stress. According to her, if a student decides to prepare in a short period of two to three months, it is better for him to focus on one subject in order to achieve a good result.
