A court in the DPR sentenced a mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Georgia to 14 years in a penal colony in absentia.

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced a mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from Georgia to 14 years in prison in absentia for participating in an armed conflict. This was reported on the website of the DPR Prosecutor's office on May 16.

According to the agency, in March 2022, he arrived in Ukraine through a border checkpoint with Poland and voluntarily joined one of the units, receiving weapons, ammunition and equipment. From November 2022 to January 2025, he served in the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participating in battles against Russian troops. His remuneration amounted to more than 2.7 million rubles.

"He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," the prosecutor's office said on its website.

The court sentenced the defendant in absentia to 14 years in prison. He will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.

On May 12, the Supreme Court of the DPR sentenced in absentia a 26-year-old mercenary from Colombia to 14 years in a high-security penal colony for participating in the conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict"). For the work performed, the mercenary was awarded a reward of 1.5 million rubles.
