The media learned about the EU's consideration of a full trade embargo against Russia

The European Union (EU) countries are considering an initiative to impose a full trade embargo against Russia. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on May 16, citing sources.
"Punitive duties on Russian imports are being discussed, two European officials said," the article says.
According to Politico, the EU countries borrowed the idea of new restrictions against Russia from US Senator Lindsey Graham (listed in the Russian list of terrorists and extremists — Ed.), who proposed to impose duties of 500% on Russian exports.
According to the newspaper, the next restrictions against Moscow will be discussed at a meeting of the European Political Community in Tirana, Albania, which will be attended by the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
It is noted that the trade embargo is considered by the countries as a lever of pressure on the Russian side.
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said on May 15 that the EU would immediately begin developing the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, noting that the adoption of the 17th package was absolutely the right decision.
On May 14, the AFP news agency reported that the EU ambassadors had agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. Russian vessels, as well as companies from China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Serbia, Vietnam and Uzbekistan will be sanctioned.
