The court upheld the verdict of an American mercenary for an attack on the Kursk region.

On May 16, the Military Court of Appeal upheld the sentence in absentia of U.S. citizen Robert Wertman to 23 years in prison for an attack on the Kursk region as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

"The verdict has been upheld," RIA Novosti quoted the court as saying.

It is established that Wertman participated in the conflict for a monetary reward. In September 2024, as part of the Armed Forces units, he invaded the territory of the Kursk region and committed crimes against the civilian population.

Earlier, on March 12, the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF) announced that the court had sentenced Robert Wertman, an American mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to 23 years in prison in absentia for committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region. In addition, he was fined 1.6 million rubles.

He is on the international wanted list.
