A possible reason for the collapse of billionaire Michael Lynch's yacht off the coast of Sicily in August 2024 could be the vulnerability of the vessel to strong winds. This was reported by the Daily Mail on Thursday, May 15.

British investigators said the yacht's crew was "unaware" of its "vulnerability" to extreme winds, which caused it to "abruptly" capsize and sink.

According to Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents Andrew Mall, the wind that day was strong enough to turn the yacht over.

"Besides, as soon as the yacht tilted more than 70 degrees, the situation became irreversible," he explained.

The 56-meter superyacht Bayesian sank on August 19, 2024 due to a severe storm off the coast of Sicily. According to the British media, the ship went under water in about a minute. There were 10 crew members and 12 passengers on board the ship. 15 people managed to escape, eight of them were hospitalized. On that day, British billionaire Michael Lynch gathered guests on a yacht to celebrate the dismissal of charges against him in a criminal case of major fraud.
