Advanced treatment methods for age-related eye changes discussed in Moscow

Ways of treating age-related eye changes were discussed at the V International Scientific and Educational Forum "Ophthalmogerontology — innovative solutions to problems" in Moscow.
Leading ophthalmologists from Russia and specialists from other countries reviewed modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of the most common eye diseases in the elderly, as well as innovative surgical techniques. This was announced by the organizers.
The aging of the population is a global trend that requires appropriate adjustments to the healthcare system, experts say. "There are more elderly people around the world due to the high level of medicine and healthcare. Therefore, within the framework of our forum, we will definitely talk about diseases of the retina, cornea, cataracts, and glaucoma, because all these areas relate specifically to diseases of the elderly population," said Yusef Yusef, MD, Professor and Director of the M. M. Krasnov Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution.
The forum also discussed the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in ophthalmology. According to the professor, Russian specialists are already using AI in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of retinal diseases. Thanks to these technologies, doctors can already make an accurate diagnosis and more.
Such advanced medical technologies require not only an impressive scientific base, but also highly qualified personnel. "For the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, medical science and medical education are priorities. Therefore, we do our best to ensure that our best academic institutions build relationships not only with their colleagues from the FMBA, the Ministry of Health and any other medical organization in the country, but also with colleagues from abroad. And, of course, we have built very strong, meaningful relations with universities," Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, said at the opening of the forum.
The Moscow Forum is supported by the Russian Ministry of Health, the International Society for Keratoconus and the country's leading medical universities. In addition to domestic experts, experts from Israel, Brazil, India, Egypt, Greece, Algeria, Italy, Great Britain, France, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Armenia and Oman are taking part in it.
