Polyansky called Berbok's nomination a slap at the UN

Germany's decision to nominate current German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbok to the post of President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is a slap at the world organization. This was stated on May 15 by Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, during an interactive dialogue with Berbok, published on the UN website.
According to him, the Russian Federation has every reason to doubt that Berbok, as President of the General Assembly, will be able to act in the interests of promoting peace and dialogue.
Polyansky noted that Burbok had repeatedly shown "incompetence, extreme commitment and ignorance of the basics of diplomacy."
On May 9, Polyansky said that Moscow had doubts about the impartiality of Berbok's possible nomination to the post of chairman of the UN General Assembly. He recalled that Berbok is also disliked because of the persistent promotion of priorities that many UN member states do not share, which makes them worry whether she will be able to act impartially.
