A case was opened in the Chelyabinsk region over electric scooter rental services

Numerous violations were revealed during the work of organizations providing electric scooter rental services in the Chelyabinsk region. This was reported on May 15 in the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia for the region.

"The management of commercial organizations <...> did not provide proper conditions for their (electric scooters. — Ed.) operations, including did not maintain the safe condition of the funds, did not provide for the identification of the tenant of the transport, did not analyze and eliminate the causes of the accident, did not inform transport users about the quality of technical means," the Telegram channel of the department clarifies.

The investigators opened a criminal case under paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of citizens, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement"). After that, more than 1.5 thousand electric scooters were seized in the region to study their condition.

The UK reported that due to the violations mentioned, 130 people have been injured in an accident involving electric scooters since January 1, 2024.

On May 13, the SU IC reported that an elderly man in Chelyabinsk was injured after being hit by a child on a rented electric scooter. After that, a criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the safety of life or health of citizens").
