The main reasons for Russians' refusal to tip are unsanitary conditions (34%), carelessness of staff (32%), rudeness of employees (30%), high prices in the institution (21%) and requests for monetary gratitude (19%). This is stated in the results of a study by analysts of the tip service "Smoothly", which were reviewed by Izvestia on May 16.
At the same time, experts found that even if tips are already included in the bill, 89% of Russians will still thank employees.
At the same time, 38% of respondents consider tips to be an important supplement to the salaries of service sector employees, 23% — an expression of personal gratitude, and 29% call them an unnecessary waste. The personal charm of the employee influences the decision of only 56% of the respondents.
A third of Russians (32%) leave tips regardless of the quality of service, while 45% refuse to pay if they are dissatisfied with the service. In cases where there is no change at hand, 39% use electronic tipping services, 30% do not leave anything, and 19% give more.
In addition, more than a third of the survey participants (37%) believe that tips as part of employees' salaries should be regulated by law, 27% call them world practice, and 19% — injustice. At the same time, 33% are ready to tip more often if it improves the working conditions of employees, 21% — if it guarantees better service, and 28% will not change their habits.
Earlier, on April 23, it was reported that the Ministry of Economic Development launched a pilot project, during which Moscow catering will begin to receive a public assessment. The supervisory authorities will check how the cafe or restaurant complies with all regulatory requirements, and it will be possible to get an assessment based on the results of scheduled inspections or preventive visits.
