On May 15, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called for the rejection of the accelerated admission of Ukraine to the European Union (EU) proposed by the European Commission (EC), citing the irrevocability of this process.

"Ukraine's accession to the EU is in black and white: they want to speed up the process, but this decision will determine the future of Europe. There is no cancel button. That's why we are addressing the people in Hungary. Let's stop them now," Orban wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said on May 7 that the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU should be accelerated. She also believes that the EC is working hard on this issue. The first negotiations are planned to be held in 2025.

Prior to that, on March 10, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the Hungarian government considers Ukraine's accession to the EU dangerous, but is ready to represent any position of its citizens on this issue in the international arena.
