- The media reported on the disruption of EU sanctions plans due to negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

The Russian-Ukrainian talks have thwarted attempts by the European Union (EU) to gain US support in imposing a new package of sanctions against Moscow. This was reported on May 15 by The Washington Post, citing sources.
"At a time when European officials were observing increased skepticism from the (American) team. — Ed.) of President Donald Trump regarding Russia's intentions and began discussing sanctions with US officials, President Vladimir Putin's proposal for negotiations changed the course of the conversation," the publication says.
It is clarified that the leaders of the EU countries continue to insist on the introduction of coordinated restrictions that could be directed against the financial and energy sectors of the Russian Federation. However, their doubts about whether Washington will follow this plan have intensified.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the current events related to the negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Turkey an intrigue. In addition, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian delegation had arrived in Istanbul for talks with Ukraine and was ready for serious work.
On May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin took the initiative to negotiate, inviting Kiev to resume dialogue on May 15 in Istanbul. Later, the Russian leader approved the composition of experts for negotiations with Ukraine. It was headed by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.
