- The media reported on the creation of a landfill in Finland near the border with Russia

A new site for testing border security technologies will be built in the Finnish city of Joensuu, located 70 km from the Russian border. This was announced on May 15 by the Yle broadcaster.
As noted, the project includes the creation of a laboratory in Joensuu itself and the use of the Vuosanka military training ground in the Kainuu region, which is at the disposal of the Finnish Defense Forces.
"In the future, drones, vehicles for transporting personnel, wireless network connections of the next generation, artificial intelligence, high—performance computing and quantum sensors will be tested in the test environment," the material says.
According to the broadcaster, the laboratory's commissioning will begin in stages from the beginning of 2026.
A meeting of representatives of Finnish and American companies working in the field of security took place in Joensuu this week. They discussed promising solutions for border protection.
On May 5, the website of the Finnish Land Forces reported that Sweden and the United Kingdom will hold military exercises from May 12 to 31 in Finnish Lapland. The ministry clarified that the exercises will take place at the Rowayarvi training ground. In total, about 6.5 thousand people will participate in them, of which 350 will be from the UK and 900 from Sweden.
